Earth Day 2014 as told by Twitter

We always love it when brands get involved in a good cause! April 22nd was International Earth day and we’ve seen some excellent examples from brands around the world getting involved and showing our Mother Earth a little bit of loving.

Earth Day is usually celebrated with planting trees, picking up roadside trash, recycling and conservation. You know, the general look after Mother Nature stuff that we should be doing everyday but sometimes forget to. However Nasa joined in this year and decided to do something a little different with the #GlobalSelfie campaign, encouraging people around the world to take a selfie.

 

‘For Earth Day we are trying to create an image of Earth from the ground up while also fostering a collection of portraits of the people of Earth. Once those pictures stream around the world on Earth Day, the individual pictures tagged #GlobalSelfie will be used to create a mosaic image of Earth — a new “Blue Marble” built bit by bit with your photos.’

Although the concept is incredible; seriously, who wouldn’t want to see a pic of themselves tiled create a small part of the world’s surface? Nasa specifically asked for outside pictures with mountains, parks, the sky, rivers, lakes. But the majority of pictures with the hashtag seem to be inside selfies framing the face, but I guess we’ll see when the ‘Earth image’ is released in May. People do really love a selfie…

 

There were some awesome ones to come out of it too!! These are our favourite 🙂

 

The awesome idea kind of misses the point though. Why? Well Earth Day aims to celebrate our earth and address any issues such as global warming and reverse as much environmental destruction as possible.

A lot of brands just used it to showcase what they do for the environment…

 

But there were a few that said it well and said it right…

 

With the Pièce de résistance, not from a brand but the image attached is hilarious… and it really gets the point across, right?
